Bhakta Syangtan and I wrote about the making of our film Singing A Great Dream for the book Music, Sound, and Documentary Film in the Global South, edited by Christopher Ballengee.
In our chapter, “Narrating a Revolutionary Life through Song: Personal, Political, and Musical Choices in Making Singing A Great Dream” (Chapter 4) we both tell our stories of being drawn to Khusiram Pakhrin’s songs. We also talk about how social and political relationships influenced what went into the film, what in hindsight we might have done differently, and what we wished we could have included.
A Nepali-language version of this chapter is in the works for a smarika (festschrift) for Khusiram Pakhrin, which is still in production. Preprints are available here.
